Odenwald open-air museum

The Odenwald open-air museum is a collection of seventeen buildings and structures brought from their original locations to this site. The buildings include farmhouses, worker residences, and agricultural facilities spanning several centuries of construction.

The museum was founded in the 1990s to preserve traditional buildings that were disappearing from the landscape. The structures gathered here date from different periods and demonstrate how residential and work buildings changed over time.

The museum displays how people once lived and farmed through heritage animal breeds and historical gardens that show traditional agricultural practices. Visitors can observe how various livestock were integrated into daily farming life.

The site is easy to explore on foot with information signs at each building. Plan several hours to visit all the structures and view the exhibits without rushing.

The museum preserves specialized structures like wood smoke kilns used for processing grain and an old brick factory with attached living quarters. These rare buildings show craftwork methods that are now largely forgotten.
