Oyter See, Nature reserve lake in Oyten, Germany
Oyter See is an L-shaped lake in Oyten that stretches for more than one kilometer with depths reaching 14 meters. The water body features a swimming beach with lifeguard service on its eastern shore, a camping area with mobile homes, and a walking path circling the entire perimeter.
The lake formed during the 1930s as a result of soil extraction for highway construction near Bremer Kreuz. This mining activity continued until 1962 and gradually created the present-day water body.
The German Red Cross water rescue service maintains safety at the eastern shore beach area during swimming seasons.
The walking path around the lake spans approximately three kilometers and provides access to explore on foot. The eastern shore offers a swimming beach with rescue service and a camping facility with amenities.
During the 1980s, the connection to the Embser Mühlengraben stream was deliberately severed to protect water quality. This action prevented nutrient inflow that could have triggered algal blooms.
