Parkeisenbahn Chemnitz, Children's railway in Küchwald Park, Chemnitz, Germany.
Parkeisenbahn Chemnitz is a miniature railway in Küchwald Park that runs for about 2.3 kilometers through green areas with one main station, two intermediate stops, and narrow-gauge tracks of 600 millimeters. The line operates using six diesel locomotives, two steam engines, and nine passenger carriages.
The railway started operating in 1954 as a Pioniereisenbahn, originally planned for 381-millimeter gauge tracks. It was later converted to the current 600-millimeter standard.
Young people aged 8 to 18 work as staff members handling ticket sales and signal control, gaining hands-on experience in railway operations. This direct involvement allows teenagers to learn how a real railway functions from the inside.
The railway operates from March through October, running trains at about 15 kilometers per hour. Visitors can explore the grounds, which feature locomotive halls and specialized vehicles like a railway Trabant in addition to the main line.
The grounds feature a garden railway display of about 200 square meters with model trains and unusual vehicles. This collection includes items like a rail-mounted Trabant and a rail moped that rarely appear on regular railways.
