Rathaus Brilon, Town hall in Brilon, Germany
The Rathaus Brilon is an administrative building featuring a baroque-style facade built on medieval foundations. The structure combines Gothic elements at its entrance with later baroque additions that give it a distinctive appearance.
The building originated around 1250 as a guild house for merchants in the Hanseatic town. Over the centuries it served different purposes and received its baroque facade in the 18th century.
The upper floor contains a citizens hall where elections and official receptions once took place. Today visitors can still sense the civic importance of this space through its design and furnishings.
Visitors can view the building from outside and see the different architectural layers that show its long history. Its central location in the town center makes it easy to reach and provides good views of the facade.
In 1574 the town council established a beer cellar beneath the building where travelers could purchase beer and bread. This underground space shows how the site once served as a supply station for passing merchants.
