Rottauensee

Rottauensee is a reservoir near Postmünster with a dam structure extending over 1 kilometer across the valley. The water is managed through a hydroelectric facility that generates power for the surrounding area.

The dam was built in the early 1970s following severe flooding events on the Rott River. Its construction aimed to reduce flood risks and provide better protection for the surrounding communities.

The lake has become an important habitat for birds and other wildlife in the region. Visitors can observe various bird species here, especially during migration periods in spring and fall.

The area around the lake is accessible on foot with paths for walking along the shoreline. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes, especially after rain when paths may be wet or muddy.

The water level of the lake changes significantly with the seasons, creating different landscapes throughout the year. During dry periods, old structures sometimes become visible along the shoreline that are normally submerged.
