Rodaborn

Rodaborn is a rest area along the A9 autobahn near Triptis that provides travelers with a building and parking facilities to stop and refresh. The grounds include the historic main building and landscaped areas surrounding the property.

The building started as a forest retreat house in 1928 near a spring and was converted in 1936 into Germany's first highway rest area. This opening marked the beginning of a new type of roadside facility in the country.

The place is closely tied to Christina Wagner, who sold bratwurst to passing travelers and became part of local lore. Her presence shaped how visitors experienced this stopping point for generations.

The rest area is accessible by car with parking available and basic facilities for travelers. Direct highway access has been limited due to safety measures, so plan your approach accordingly.

For decades, the site functioned as an informal gathering spot where visitors could get food and drinks in a charming older building. Today it has largely ceased regular operations, yet it remains a testament to how highway travel was once experienced.
