Roesesches Hölzchen, Public park in Eisenach, Germany

The Roesesches Hölzchen extends from the southern edge of the Old Cemetery to the Zeisiggrund, offering a shaded path toward Wartburg Castle.

In 1787, merchant Christian Friedrich Roese purchased a substantial area within the Eisenach hunting grounds, initiating the development of terraced gardens along Metilstein slopes.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe documented his visit to the park in 1801, noting the innovative landscaping methods employed by merchant Roese.

The network of paths remains intact throughout the park, providing multiple routes for walking while connecting different sections of the forested area.

During the 1830s, the park served as an educational model for forest cultivation, featuring experimental plantings of various tree species and exotic plants.
