Roman Villa Borg, Archaeological site in Perl, Germany
Roman Villa Borg was a substantial country estate with residential quarters, bathing facilities, and agricultural buildings from ancient times. The structures have been rebuilt based on archaeological findings to show how the property once operated and appeared.
A schoolteacher found the ruins in the late 1800s, which eventually led to organized archaeological work on the site. The reconstructions began afterward to help visitors understand how the estate once looked and worked.
The bath complex shows how Romans approached daily cleansing rituals and social gathering. You can observe the separate chambers and understand how bathing was both practical and a social activity.
The site is well-marked and fairly easy to navigate, though some paths are uneven underfoot. Wear comfortable shoes and bring an umbrella, as there is limited shelter from the weather throughout the grounds.
The on-site tavern bakes bread using ancient recipes in a reconstructed oven. Tasting this food and these meals prepared by old instructions offers a rare chance to experience how people actually ate in those times.
