St. Nikolai, Baroque church in Lübbenau, Germany
St. Nikolai is a Baroque church building at the center of Lübbenau's old town, featuring tall pointed arch windows and a three-story western tower. The structure displays characteristic 18th-century architecture with its distinctive tower design.
Construction began in 1738 under architect Johann Gottfried Findeisen's design and was completed in 1741. The building replaced an earlier chapel that had occupied the site since 1640.
The interior shows furnishings from Saxon Baroque times, including an altar from 1741 with artwork depicting victory over death. The space reflects the region's religious artistic tradition.
The church is accessible to visitors, particularly during regular Sunday services in the morning. Those wishing to visit outside of service times should contact the parish in advance.
The baptismal font is topped by a bronze angel figure that has been part of the furnishings since 1864. Throughout the interior are several historical grave markers, including a 1765 memorial to Hieronimus de Weding.
