Schlossanlage Altdöbern is a three-winged baroque château with two towers, located in the small town of Altdöbern in Brandenburg, Germany. Its rooms are decorated with wall paintings and plasterwork, and the building sits within a surrounding park.
The château was built in 1717 by General Alexander Dietrich von Eickstedt on the site of a medieval water castle. A Renaissance building that stood here before was replaced by this baroque construction, which has shaped the character of the town ever since.
The interiors show Saxon Rococo style decorations commissioned by Carl Heinrich von Heineken. Artists from Dresden carried out this work, and their craft is still visible today in the painted walls and plasterwork.
The building serves today as a venue for exhibitions and events, so access to the rooms can vary depending on what is happening inside. The park around it is generally open and can be visited on its own.
A concrete foundation slab was placed under the entire building to protect it from rising groundwater in the area. This engineering solution is invisible from outside but plays a key role in keeping the structure dry over time.
