Schloss Aspenstein, Baroque château in Kochel, Germany
Schloss Aspenstein is a two-story baroque building with a saddle roof and chapel in Kochel. It stands in a landscape between lakes and Alpine foothills and is used today as an educational center.
The castle was built between 1675 and 1694 and served Benedictine abbots first as a summer residence and later as a retirement home. After secularization in 1803, the monastery's use of it ended.
The Georg-von-Vollmar-Akademie now uses the castle rooms for seminars and conferences. Visitors can observe how the historic building remains active in educational work today.
The castle is centrally located in Kochel and is accessible by public transport. Guided tours take place at regular intervals, so visitors should check ahead.
After World War II, the castle briefly served as headquarters for an American armored division. Later it also provided shelter for people displaced from Eastern Europe.
