Schloss Au

Schloss Au is a castle and functioning brewery in Au in der Hallertau, located in Bavaria. The building features a rectangular layout with corner towers, mansard roofs, and moats surrounding both the main and outer areas of the fortified complex.

The castle first appears in records from 1385, and then underwent major reconstruction between 1544 and 1578 following damage from the Landshut War of Succession. This rebuilding shaped the structure that stands today.

The chapel built in 1690 reflects the religious life of the castle's inhabitants and shows their long connection to the community. The brewery operation here demonstrates how the estate maintains ties to the local hop-growing tradition that defines the surrounding region.

The castle is located at Untere Hauptstraße 4 and can be viewed from the outside, though parts of the estate remain private. Access to certain areas is limited since the complex functions as both a residence and active brewery.

The brewery produces beers using hops from the surrounding Hallertau region, one of Europe's most important hop-growing areas. Chinese investors acquired a stake in the operation in 2019, marking a significant shift in the estate's ownership structure.
