Schloss Auel

Schloss Auel is a three-winged castle complex in Lohmar in the Bergisches Land region, surrounded by water moats and a large park with three ponds. The main building displays Baroque features and today functions as a hotel with guest rooms and an adjacent golf course for play.

The site began in 1391 as a water castle under Peter van Auel and underwent changes over time. The main building visible today dates to 1763 and came under the ownership of the von la Valette St. George family in 1818.

The grounds serve both heritage visitors and golf players today, blending historical design with modern recreation. This mix shapes how the place is experienced and shows how the old estate has adapted to contemporary use.

The property is best explored on foot since the park is laid out generously with multiple walking paths available. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow plenty of time for a full circuit, especially if you want to see the water features and surrounding woodlands.

The modern Golf Lodge was built entirely from natural materials and won a regional architecture award in 2018. This contemporary addition to the historic site shows how modern design meets old structures.
