Schloss Eichenbarleben, Renaissance château in Hohe Börde, Germany
Schloss Eichenbarleben is a Renaissance château in Hohe Börde built on a medieval foundation that includes a round tower and a manor house with a hipped roof. The two-story corner structure shows different construction phases and was significantly remodeled between 1702 and 1703, with Rococo stucco work added to its interior rooms.
The von Alvensleben family owned the castle from 1453 onward and developed it into a major estate in the region. Extensive renovations in the early 18th century gave the building its current form before the family sold it in 1812.
The chapel on the grounds preserves tombs spanning several centuries and reflects the religious role of the family estate in the region. These spaces show how the place held meaning for people across different time periods.
The property remains privately owned and visiting the grounds requires permission from the owner in advance. Plan ahead and contact the property beforehand to arrange a visit.
One member of the von Alvensleben family conducted astronomical observations and built an observatory with an astrolabe within the castle. This observatory made the place a center for scientific activity during the age of Enlightenment.
