Schloss Fußberg, Architectural heritage monument in Gauting, Germany
Schloss Fußberg is a three-story castle with a hipped roof located on the left bank of the Würm River, north of Gauting's center. The complex includes the main building, a former coach house, and extensive grounds with park areas flowing along the river.
The castle was built in 1721 following designs by Paul von Dießen, replacing an earlier fortress documented since 1342. This construction marked the transition from a medieval defensive structure to a baroque residence.
The former coach house, called the Remise, now serves as a cultural center hosting theater performances, concerts, and art exhibitions. Visitors can experience the local cultural scene through these regular events.
The grounds are open to the public with accessible paths for exploring the park and riverbank areas. A restaurant on the property allows visitors to spend time on-site and enjoy the surroundings at a comfortable pace.
A former owner, Karl Theodor von Hallberg-Broich, painted all the doors and windows of the castle in a striking red color, an unusual choice that shaped the building's identity. Today they are painted white, yet the story of this vibrant past is still remembered and shared.
