Schloss Guteborn is a Renaissance château with four stories and corner towers topped by domed roofs. The entire structure was enclosed by protective walls and surrounded by a moat for defense.
The castle was home to the Gersdorff family from 1397 until 1622. Ownership then passed to the von Hoym family and eventually to the princes of Schönburg-Waldenburg.
The chapel on the grounds features baroque architecture with a bell tower that rises above the surrounding landscape. The organ inside reflects how music and faith held importance in the daily life of those who lived here.
The castle is located in a rural area and is best reached by personal transport. Visitors should plan ahead since it lies away from larger cities and access may be limited.
An important political document was signed here during a time of major upheaval in Germany. This event in 1918 gave the castle a place in national history.
