Seehundstation Friedrichskoog, Seal rehabilitation center and zoo in Friedrichskoog, Germany
Seehundstation Friedrichskoog is a seal care and observation facility on the North German coast. It has pools both indoors and outdoors, viewing platforms, and windows where you can watch the animals both above and below the water surface.
The station was founded in 1985 and operates as a rescue and care facility for orphaned seal pups from the North Sea coast. Since its opening, it has been treating and caring for injured and abandoned marine mammals from Schleswig-Holstein.
The place teaches visitors about marine mammals that live in the North Sea, especially harbor seals and grey seals from this region. You can watch through windows as the animals are fed and behave in ways that show their natural habits.
The facility is easy to reach, and you can observe the animals in their pools from different viewing heights. There are multiple feeding times each day when you have the best chance to see the seals being active.
The center is the only facility in Germany that keeps harbor seals and grey seals together in the same pool system. This rare combination allows you to observe the differences between the two species directly.
