Sendeturm Chemnitz-Reichenhain, Communication tower in Reichenhain, Germany
The Sendeturm Chemnitz-Reichenhain is a steel lattice tower standing on Schenkenberg hill that broadcasts radio stations and provides mobile network coverage. Sector antennas distributed along the structure transmit signals for Apollo Radio, R.SA, MDR Aktuell, and multiple cellular networks across the surrounding area.
The tower was built in the middle of the 1980s at an initial height of 60 meters. A major upgrade in 2007 raised it to 99 meters to support digital television transmission standards.
The tower represents the technological advancement of Saxony's communication infrastructure, serving as a central hub for radio and television distribution in the region.
The structure is visible from various points around Reichenhain and serves as a local landmark from the surrounding landscape. Access to the tower itself is restricted as it remains an active transmission facility.
In 2007 a specialized helicopter operation lifted and installed new antenna carriers to extend the tower by 39 meters in a single dramatic operation. This aerial feat was a rare engineering accomplishment for the region and remains notable for how such major transmission upgrades occur.
