Warehouse XI, Maritime museum in Überseestadt, Bremen, Germany
Warehouse XI is a brick structure in Bremen's Überseestadt that spans four levels connected by wide corridors. Its facade features regularly spaced cargo hatches, while the interior now houses art workshops, a harbor museum, and cultural organizations.
The building was constructed between 1908 and 1912 as a cotton warehouse serving Bremen's busy harbor trade. After war damage, it was restored and granted protected status as a cultural monument in 1994.
Art schools and cultural organizations use sections of the building for workshops in printing, model making, and audio production. Visitors walking through can see how the old warehouse has become a place where artists and students work on contemporary creative projects.
Elevators serve all floors, and there are designated accessible parking spaces with ramps throughout the building. Barrier-free restrooms are located on levels 1 and 4 for visitor convenience.
The building houses sixteen professional workshops and about 2,000 square meters of exhibition space, making it a generous facility for diverse artistic and cultural projects. This scale allows many different groups to work simultaneously on various activities.
