St. Jakobi

St. Jakobi is a church with a trapezoidal floor plan and Gothic architecture located in the center of Hildesheim. It features tall Gothic windows and a multi-story western tower that rises above the surrounding buildings.

The church was built between 1503 and 1514 as a late Gothic structure in the medieval city. After suffering severe damage during World War II, it underwent complete reconstruction from 1948 to 1949.

The building now serves as a literary center where author readings, exhibitions, and concerts take place throughout the year. Visitors experience how the sacred space has been transformed into a venue for contemporary artistic expression.

The building is located at the intersection of Jakobistraße and Almsstraße in the pedestrian zone. It stands about one kilometer north of Hildesheim main station and is easy to find on foot.

The building combines its religious heritage with modern literary programs that explore contemporary themes. This transformation shows how a 500-year-old pilgrimage church has found new purpose in today's cultural landscape.
