St. Johannes Baptist, Gothic Revival church in Borgentreich, Germany.
St. Johannes Baptist is a Gothic Revival church in Borgentreich built between 1833 and 1836 with a western tower rising 42 meters and a pointed arch portal at its entrance. Inside, stained glass windows show scenes from the life of Mary and John the Baptist throughout the interior.
A religious building stood at this location from at least 1295, but the current structure was completely rebuilt between 1833 and 1836 during a major renovation. Construction workers reused stone blocks from the earlier chapel in the new walls.
The north altar holds a painting by court artist Johann Georg Rudolphi from Paderborn, showing God the Father, Mary, and Christ in religious composition. This artwork brings spiritual meaning to the space through its careful brushwork and arrangement.
The church sits in central Borgentreich on Marktstraße and opens to visitors throughout the year during regular service times. You can see the interior decoration most clearly when doors are unlocked for services.
Inside stands one of Germany's oldest preserved organs with spring chest mechanics, built between 1630 and 1730 and installed in 1803. This rare instrument was carefully restored in 2010 and still plays during religious services today.
