St. Maria, Romanesque church in Auhausen, Germany.
St. Maria is a Romanesque church in Auhausen with two square towers topped by pyramid roofs and a three-nave interior. A Gothic choir section with tracery windows and preserved stained glass fragments extends the structure toward the east.
Construction of the church began around 1120 as a Romanesque structure, while the south tower was added in 1334. The early 16th century brought further expansions under the abbot, including new side chapels.
The main altar displays 16 carved panels depicting the coronation of Mary and dates from the early 16th century. These works of art remain among the most valued religious pieces in the region and define the interior character of the building.
The main entrance is on the north side of the building, while the original facade with an open vestibule remains on the western side. The interior is easily accessible and allows visitors to walk through the various sections comfortably.
Five medieval bells ring multiple times daily from the towers and create a distinctive sound pattern for the community. An organ from the 18th century, built by a skilled craftsman, complements this acoustic heritage.
