Volkspark Schönholzer Heide, Urban park in Niederschönhausen, Germany
The Volkspark Schönholzer Heide extends across 35 hectares of hilly forest terrain, featuring natural walking paths, open meadows, and diverse tree species throughout the landscape.
The land was initially purchased by Queen Elisabeth Christine in 1750 for a mulberry plantation, where she later settled twelve weavers and cloth makers from Saxony and Thuringia.
The park hosts the annual Rakatak drumming festival in June, bringing together musicians and enthusiasts to celebrate percussion instruments from various cultural traditions.
Visitors can reach the park via S-Bahn lines S1, S25, and S85 at Schönholz station, or by taking bus routes 150, 327, and 155 to the surrounding stops.
The park includes an educational nature trail, art installations, memorial sites, and adventure playgrounds, combining recreational facilities with historical preservation elements.
