Tempelhaus, Gothic fortified church in Neckarelz, Germany.
Tempelhaus is a Gothic fortified church in Mosbach featuring a polygonal choir with ornate tracery windows. The building sits across a moat that is crossed by a stone bridge, displaying the defensive architecture typical of fortified churches from its era.
The building was constructed around 1200 as a residential tower near Wimpfen Palace. In the late 13th century, the Johanniter Order acquired and transformed it into a fortified church that survives today.
The interior walls display coats of arms from noble families that reflect the importance of this place in the region. These details tell the story of the people who were here and which families shaped this area.
The building is located in central Mosbach and is easily reached on foot. It is best to inquire about visiting hours in advance, as access to the interior may be restricted.
This is the only preserved Johanniter fortress of its kind in Baden-Württemberg that remains in its original form. This rarity makes it an exceptional example of how the knightly order built and defended its holdings in the region.
