Sülte, Monastery and spring in Hildesheim, Germany
The Sülte monastery complex included a church, hospital, and pilgrims' hostel situated near a natural salt spring east of Hildesheim's city walls.
Bishop Godehard established the monastery in 1022 to counter local fears about supernatural occurrences in the salt marshes near the city boundaries.
The monastery library produced twenty manuscripts after the Windesheim Reform, with fifteen texts now preserved in the Herzog August Bibliothek collection.
The original monastery buildings no longer exist, as they were demolished in 1830 and replaced by a hotel and event center complex.
Johannes Busch led the monastery's transformation in 1439, introducing reforms that spread through religious communities across Lower Saxony and neighboring regions.
