Trutzburg Heppenheim is a modern castle structure built on a hillside location southeast of Starkenburg, constructed from stone with towers and fortification elements. The building featured architectural details designed to evoke the appearance of medieval fortifications.
The structure was built in 2004 by beekeeper Volker Sieradzki as an intended environmental center for children. The project encountered conflicts with authorities in Bergstrasse district who raised concerns about missing building permits.
The castle generated support from Heppenheim residents who expressed their views through letters and statements in local newspapers regarding its preservation.
The location remained open to visitors until demolition began in June 2012 following orders from building authorities. Visitors should be aware that the site has not been accessible for many years now.
The structure was built without official permits yet attracted considerable attention in local newspapers and regional broadcasts. The story of this unauthorized construction drew significant coverage from Hessenschau, the regional television station.
