Tapetenwerk, building in Leipzig, Saxony, Germany
Tapetenwerk is an exhibition space and former factory site in Leipzig with large production halls and workshops spread across approximately 4400 square meters. Today it houses artist studios, craft businesses, and creative enterprises in carefully restored rooms while preserving the original industrial architecture.
The building was constructed in 1873 as a wallpaper factory during Leipzig's industrial growth period. In 2006 it was revived through a transformation project in which artists and students spent two weeks converting the factory into a living art center, launching its current creative use.
The name points to its past as a wallpaper factory, yet today the site brings together artists, craftspeople, and visitors in a working creative community. Regular events like the Tapetenwerksfest and exhibitions bring people together to see new work and meet the artists who use the space.
The site is easy to reach and can be explored on foot, with visitors walking through open areas to reach different sections. Regular events, exhibitions, and the cafe offer flexible visiting options suited to different interests and schedules.
The site includes a coworking community space called Raumstation where freelancers and small businesses work and connect together. Additionally, a large canopy structure serves outdoor cinema and open-air theater, giving the place an extra layer of versatility.
