Veste Erlangen

Veste Erlangen is a medieval fortress that stands on elevated ground and impresses with its sturdy stone walls. The structure displays typical features of Middle Franconian castle building with defensive elements that command the landscape.

The castle was built during Bavaria's period of territorial expansion and served as a strategic defensive stronghold monitoring trade routes through Middle Franconia. Over the centuries it lost its military significance but was preserved as a reminder of that era.
