Wallfahrtskapelle Etzelsbach, Gothic Revival pilgrimage chapel in Eichsfeld, Germany
The stone chapel features pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and lancet windows characteristic of Gothic Revival architecture within a peaceful countryside setting.
Built in 1898 by Franciscan Paschalis Gratze, the chapel replaced an earlier structure from 1801 that could no longer accommodate increasing numbers of pilgrims.
The chapel holds a wooden Pietà from the 16th century, discovered by local farmers and now central to religious ceremonies and community gatherings.
Visitors can access the chapel through marked pilgrimage paths, with designated parking areas and information centers providing guidance about services and events.
The site hosts an annual Horse Pilgrimage on the second Sunday after the Visitation of Mary, where horses receive blessings following Mass.
