Wallfahrtskirche Maria Schnee, Catholic pilgrimage church in Aufhausen, Germany.
This pilgrimage church features Baroque design with an octagonal nave topped by a flat dome and a curved facade that frames a rounded main entrance. The structure sits on a hillside north of the Große Laber valley, making it visible from across the surrounding landscape.
Johann Georg Seidenbusch built a wooden chapel in 1668 after receiving a statue of Mary. The current stone structure was constructed beginning in 1736, replacing the original chapel.
The site celebrates the feast of Mary of the Snows on August 5th with an evening mass held on the church square. A candlelit procession follows, forming an important part of local religious observance.
The church sits on a raised location with good visibility and multiple approach paths through the surroundings. Visitors should expect some slopes depending on which direction they approach from.
A side chapel on the northwest holds an altar painting titled Madonna in the Hall dated to 1515, attributed to Augsburg painter Jörg Breu the Elder. This work predates the church building itself by over two centuries.
