Hohenstein power station, Run-of-river power station in Witten, Germany.
The Hohenstein power station stands on an island in the Ruhr River, generating hydroelectric power through its modern turbine system.
Built between 1922 and 1925 by architect Edmund Körner for the Bredt shovel factory, the station began operations with three Francis turbines producing 1.75 megawatts.
The power station represents expressionist architecture and forms part of the Industrial Heritage Route, marking the industrial development of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Located at Wetterstraße 30b in Witten, the facility continues to generate 2.25 megawatts of power while maintaining its original structural elements.
The station received new generators in 1996 after damage to its original turbines, combining modern technology with historical architecture.
