Villa Gustav Lohmann, Architectural heritage villa in Witten, Germany.
Villa Gustav Lohmann is a manor house in Witten with a symmetrical facade of Paris sandstone featuring five window axes, two full stories, and a mezzanine level. The estate includes a greenhouse and separate houses for gardeners and coachmen alongside the main building.
Gustav Lohmann, a factory and distillery owner, had this residence built in 1873 by architect Wilhelm Bovensiepen next to his business operations. The house was constructed during a period of significant industrial expansion in the Ruhr region.
The facade displays symbols of industry and commerce that reflect the business activities of that era. These decorative elements tell the story of the economic importance that family and wealth held during this period.
The property stands at Ruhrstraße 78 in Witten and is a protected monument with several historic structures on the grounds. Visitors should note this is a private residence best viewed from outside the main entrance area.
The grounds contain a hourglass-shaped pond with an arch bridge that was hidden for many years before gaining monument protection status in 2019. This concealed water feature reveals the elaborate design of the historic garden layout.
