St. Laurentius, Gothic Revival church in Wanne, Herne, Germany.
St. Laurentius is a Gothic Revival church in Wanne, a neighborhood of Herne, built between 1884 and 1892. The structure features a three-nave hall design made of brick with a four-story bell tower topped by pointed arch windows arranged in pairs.
Construction took place under architect Arnold Güldenpfennig during a period of rapid industrial growth in the region. World War II brought severe damage from artillery and bombs, transforming its appearance.
The interior features stained glass windows created by Georg Meistermann from 1978 to 1988 that bring light and color to the sacred space. These modern artworks shape how visitors experience the church's spiritual atmosphere.
The church stands on Hauptstraße 317 in the Wanne neighborhood and serves as part of the larger St. Christophorus parish. It is accessible by public transportation and visitors can view the exterior and interior under normal visiting hours.
The bell tower contains four cast steel bells from Bochumer Verein that replaced the originals surrendered during World War I. These replacements were specifically cast for the building and continue to ring for services today.
