Neuer Markt

Neuer Markt is a rectangular square at the heart of Stralsund, surrounded by red-brick buildings with Gothic features and pointed gable roofs. The open space is lined with cafes, shops, and restaurants at street level in the surrounding structures.

The square developed in the 13th century when Stralsund grew as a Hanseatic merchant city and needed a central trading hub. The Gothic buildings surrounding it were constructed from the 14th to 16th centuries and continue to define its appearance.
