St. Peter und Paul

St. Peter and Paul is a baroque church in Weyarn with a central dome and frescoes depicting Saints Peter and Paul along with scenes from Christian tradition. The building features an octagonal tower with multiple bronze bells as a distinctive architectural feature.

The church building was constructed between 1687 and 1693 under architect Lorenzo Sciasa and replaced an earlier structure from the 12th century. This transformation made it an important example of baroque architecture in the region.

The sculptures inside come from the artist Ignaz Günther and were made specifically for the local community's religious processions. These works show the style of one of southern Germany's most important artists of that era.

Visitors should keep in mind that the building is actively used as a parish church and may be closed at certain times for services. It's wise to check opening hours beforehand, especially if you want to see the frescoes and sculptures in detail.

The octagonal tower received its domed cap in 1713 and houses six bronze bells that are still rung during services and holidays today. These bells are a rare example of early 18th-century craftsmanship in Upper Bavaria.
