Bürgerhaus

The Bürgerhaus is a two-story Baroque building from Volkach's historic center with traditional architectural features from the middle of the 17th century. The structure contains multiple residential units and displays typical townhouse construction of the era with steep roofs and regularly spaced windows.

The building was constructed in the middle of the 17th century as Volkach developed from a medieval village into an organized trading town. This period saw new construction standards and wealthier citizen families who wanted to decorate their homes with Baroque features.

The building displays how merchant families and townspeople lived in the 17th century, with separate household units stacked vertically. Walking through its spaces, you notice how rooms were organized around daily activities and how much care was invested in craftsmanship.

The best time to visit is during the heritage open days in September when tours and explanations are available to learn more. Be aware that access may be limited at certain times, so checking ahead helps you plan properly.

During renovation work, craftspeople discovered original Baroque-era building methods, including traditional mortar recipes and wooden joints. These findings reveal how builders managed to work with precision without modern tools.
