The church features rounded arches, strong stone walls, and a slate-covered gable roof with a ridge turret characteristic of Romanesque architecture.
The original chapel dates back to the 13th century, and the church received its Gothic nave in 1489 when Ewald von Hattenbach served as commander.
The church switched to Protestant denomination in 1561, leading to interior modifications including the installation of galleries and pews from 1584 onwards.
Located at Zur Aue 34 in Pohlheim, the church now hosts weddings, funerals, devotions, and concerts under the management of the city administration.
The bell tower, added in 1490, contains a historical bell that has served as a school bell since 1921.
