Hallenbad Nordhorn

Hallenbad Nordhorn is an office building and architectural heritage monument in Nordhorn featuring a distinctive facade along the Stadtring thoroughfare. A secondary pavilion was originally designed as a milk bar and ice cream parlor, forming an integral part of the overall structure.

The building opened in 1953 as the first indoor swimming facility in Lower Saxony following World War II. After a major fire in 2012 destroyed much of the complex, the site was later redeveloped as office space while preserving the protected facade.

For decades, this place brought families and children together for swimming and visits to the attached ice cream parlor. Its social role in the community remains part of how local residents remember the building and its connection to the city center.

The building now houses the headquarters of the housing association Gewo and is not open to the public as it serves as a private office. Visitors can view the protected architecture and facade from the street along the Stadtring and observe the historic pavilion details from outside.

The pavilion with its original ice cream parlor became a nostalgic anchor for older Nordhorn residents who associate it with childhood memories. This personal story of the place is often what residents recall when they pass the building today.
