Burg Kaltenstein, Medieval castle ruins in Röhrnbach, Germany
The stone tower of Kaltenstein Castle rises 15 meters above the Urleinsberg mountain, featuring a square base and pyramid-shaped roof structure.
The castle received construction rights from the Bishopric of Passau in 1389 to protect the Golden Path trade route between Bavaria and Bohemia.
The structure represents a significant architectural heritage monument of Bavaria, showcasing medieval defensive engineering and construction techniques from the 14th century.
The castle tower, renovated in 1966 and converted into residential quarters, remains in private ownership and does not permit interior visits.
The entrance to the tower sits two meters above ground level, with its lower section maintaining original medieval masonry from the 1300s.
