Strasse Army Ammunition Plant, Military ammunition ruins in Nersingen, Germany
The Strasse Army Ammunition Plant is a former munitions factory on an extensive site in Nersingen with numerous deteriorated buildings and industrial structures. The ruins spread across the large area and show the typical infrastructure of an armaments facility from the 20th century.
The facility was established in 1938 as a German munitions factory and produced ammunition until 1945. After the war, the US Army used the site as a training and storage area until 1996, when it was eventually abandoned.
The abandoned structures show how ammunition production was organized in the 20th century and what spaces were needed for it. You can still understand today how such a facility operated.
The site is large and consists of numerous buildings spread across scattered positions, so good footwear and sufficient time are needed for exploration. It is advisable to check beforehand which areas are accessible and whether a guide or permission is required.
Many people do not know that after the war the site continued to function as a military base under American control and was only much later completely abandoned. This period of use left its own marks on the grounds, making the post-1945 history visible.
