Schleuse Bad Abbach, Navigation lock in Bad Abbach, Germany.
Schleuse Bad Abbach is a navigation lock on the Danube River designed to help boats pass through changes in water level. The installation allows commercial barges and pleasure boats to move safely upstream and downstream along this section of the river.
The lock was built between 1975 and 1978 as part of a major development project to improve the Danube as a transport corridor. This construction connected river communities through modern navigation infrastructure.
The lock represents German engineering excellence, connecting communities along the Danube while enabling both commercial and recreational navigation through Bavaria.
The lock is operated remotely from Regensburg with water levels managed automatically throughout the day. Visitors can best observe the passage from nearby pathways along the riverbank where boats regularly pass through.
The lock uses a lifting sector gate at the upper end and a flap gate at the lower end, combining two different mechanical systems. This dual-gate arrangement allows precise control of water flow for boats moving in either direction.
