St. Jürgen

St. Jürgen is a Gothic parish church of brick construction in Gettorf, featuring a 64-meter (210 feet) tower built between 1491 and 1494. The building displays characteristic Gothic elements integrated into its red brick facade.

The central aisle was constructed around 1250, followed by a choir around 1300 and a Marian chapel on the southern wall in 1520. The distinctive brick tower that dominates the church profile was completed in the late 15th century.

The bronze baptismal font dates to 1424 and displays scenes from the life of Christ as a youth, supported by four figures dressed in Burgundian style. This artistic piece remains a striking feature of the church interior.

The church welcomes visitors during weekdays and allows time for quiet observation of the interior. Regular services take place, offering a chance to experience how the community uses the space.

A medieval stone structure built into the church wall once stored offerings left by pilgrims traveling through the region. This hidden element reveals the church's role as a stopping point for medieval travelers.
