Christoph 62, Rescue helicopter in Bautzen, Germany
Christoph 62 is a rescue helicopter based at Bautzen Airport in eastern Saxony that provides emergency medical assistance to the surrounding region. The aircraft carries advanced medical equipment and can reach patients quickly when rapid care is needed.
The rescue station at Bautzen Airport began operations in September 1998 and took over emergency medical services that were previously based in Dresden. The helicopter has been modernized several times since then to keep pace with evolving emergency care needs.
The helicopter crew includes pilots from DRF Luftrettung, emergency physicians from Dresden Municipal Hospitals, and paramedics working together in emergency situations.
The helicopter responds to medical emergency calls across the region and operates both day and night. Visitors can view the airport area from outside, but should know this is an active operational facility with restricted access.
In 2023, the fleet transitioned to newer H145 aircraft models that can carry heavier loads and expand what the service can do. These more advanced machines allow transport of additional medical equipment or multiple patients at once.
