Clara-Schumann-Gymnasium Lahr, Public gymnasium in Lahr/Schwarzwald, Germany.
The Clara-Schumann-Gymnasium is an early 20th century school building with space for about 450 students in its main building and additional capacity in a separate wing. The school offers different paths: an eight-year course, a seven-year course starting in seventh grade, or a three-year course after the middle school qualification.
The building was constructed between 1910 and 1912 as a grand-ducal teacher training seminar and went through several transformations as different types of schools. It received its current name as Clara-Schumann-Gymnasium in 1994.
The school carries the name of the renowned composer Clara Schumann and connects students with both artistic and scientific education. Visitors can sense this dual focus reflected in the school's spaces and architecture, which show how music and learning are woven together.
The building is a protected heritage structure and part of Baden-Württemberg's cultural monuments. Keep in mind this is an active school, so access may be limited during regular school hours.
The school was a pioneer and implemented one of Germany's first eight-year programs in 1997. Additionally, it maintains 45 boarding school places, which gives it a special role in the regional education landscape.
