Räuchermännchenmuseum Cranzahl

The Räuchermännchenmuseum presents over 2000 wooden smoking figures housed in a former dye factory building. The exhibition spreads across generous space and showcases an extensive collection of these traditional handcraft pieces.

The museum was founded in 2012 and became Germany's first institution dedicated to collecting these traditional wooden figures. With this establishment, a regionally known craft finally gained its own permanent exhibition space.

The collection displays figures representing different trades from the region, including hunters, forest workers, night watchmen, and miners. These wooden figures reflect the working culture of the Erzgebirge and show which professions shaped the people there.

The museum is best visited from spring through summer when opening hours are most generous. It helps to check the specific days and hours in advance, as visiting times vary depending on the season.

The collection ranges from tiny figures to large specimens, showing the varied handcraft tradition in the region. This wide range demonstrates how diverse the wood carving of the Erzgebirge can be.
