Schloss Hemsendorf

Schloss Hemsendorf is a water fortress near Jessen featuring moats that encircle the entire complex. The buildings show different construction periods and are now opened for guided visits to the public.

An earlier water fortress stood here in 1380, then Christian Dietrich von Roebel built the current structure in the late 1600s. This new construction completely replaced the older fortification.

After World War II, the castle served as a kindergarten, shop, and housing before returning to cultural use. Today, you can see traces of these different periods in how the spaces are arranged and decorated.

The current owner arranges guided tours that need to be scheduled in advance. It is best to contact ahead and be aware that some areas may have limited accessibility.

A park was established around the fortress in the mid-1800s and remains a green space framing the complex. This historic garden is often overlooked by visitors but adds charm to the grounds.
