Herrenhaus Roskow

Herrenhaus Roskow is a Baroque manor house and school, comprising a two-story three-wing complex with a mansard roof and two shorter side wings connected to the central main building. The structure forms a unified ensemble with distinct residential and functional areas arranged with clear architectural order.

The estate was built between 1723 and 1727 under Hans Christoph III von Katte, with records documenting the property as early as 1650. Later it served as a local school from 1952 to 2005 before descendants of the von Katte family converted it into a cultural center.

The interior spaces display Baroque craftsmanship with a grand garden hall on the ground floor and an ornate festive hall featuring stucco work and fireplaces upstairs. These rooms tell of the lifestyle of the nobility and impress visitors through their careful design.

The manor house is located between Potsdam and Brandenburg an der Havel and can be reached in roughly one hour by car from Berlin-Mitte. Visitors should plan adequate time to explore both the interior rooms and the surrounding garden grounds.

The building harbors a lesser-known detail: the frescoes and stucco work in the upper rooms showcase craftsmanship techniques typical of the northeastern German Baroque tradition. These regional particulars become visible upon close observation of the ceiling and wall decorations.
