Schloss Baumgarten, Heritage castle in Dietersburg, Germany.
Schloss Baumgarten is a castle in Dietersburg, Bavaria, featuring an irregular polygon layout with arcades surrounding a rectangular inner courtyard and a dominant square tower at the northwest corner. The complex includes multiple preserved structures, including an 18th-century shell fountain and a garden wall constructed between 1800 and 1899.
The castle was first documented in 1338 and initially belonged to the Herren von Baumgarten family. It subsequently passed through several noble families, including the Counts of Hals.
The Catholic Castle Church of Saint Bartholomew stands east of the main entrance and displays late Baroque design from its 1796 construction date. It reflects the religious identity of the estate and remains a focal point within the complex.
When visiting, explore the arcades and inner courtyard where the building layout becomes clearest. The garden wall and shell fountain are easy to access and show the different construction phases of the complex.
A 1721 engraving by Michael Wening shows two distinct structures side by side: the chapel with its characteristic bulbous dome and the main castle building with defensive features. This historical image helps visitors understand the original arrangement and character of the complex before modern changes.
