St. Petri, Lutheran church in Ratzeburg, Germany

St. Petri is a Lutheran church in Ratzeburg built in neogothic style with classical elements throughout. Two levels of galleries ring the interior space, while a late Baroque pulpit altar decorated with ornamental details forms the focal point.

A church at this location was first documented in 1301, but the present building was constructed between 1787 and 1791 under architect Johann Friedrich Laves. The tower, added in 1911, reflects the neo-baroque style of that later period.

The church serves as a gathering place for the community and anchors the spiritual life of the town center. Visitors can observe the interior furnishings and decorative elements that reflect the worship traditions of this region.

Inside the church stands a Karl Schuke organ from 1980 with 31 registers spread across two manuals and pedals, which makes it noteworthy for music enthusiasts. The building is open to visitors who wish to examine its architectural details and interior decorations.

The tower with its neo-baroque design sits unusually atop the roof ridge of the building rather than rising from the ground, giving it a distinctive visual presence. A sculpture titled 'The Teaching Christ' was installed in 2013 to honor the legacy of artist Ernst Barlach.
