Menhiranlage von Darmstadt, Stone circle near Scheftheimer Wiesen, Germany
The megalithic monument contains 14 large granite porphyry stones arranged in a circular pattern at the edge of the Hirtenwiese meadow.
During excavations in 1966, archaeologists discovered the stone formation dating back to the Neolithic period between 5500 and 2200 BCE.
The stone circle represents a rare example of megalithic structures in Hesse, providing insights into the prehistoric settlements of the region.
The site, located east of Darmstadt near the B26 road, features an information board and remains accessible throughout the year without special permission.
The stone formation stands as the only known prehistoric stone circle in the state of Hesse, near settlements from the Rössen culture.
