Menhiranlage von Darmstadt, Stone circle near Scheftheimer Wiesen, Germany

The Menhiranlage von Darmstadt is a circular arrangement of 14 large granite porphyry stones standing upright at the meadow's edge. The stones form a regular pattern that remains clearly visible today and can be walked around easily.

The stones were erected during the Neolithic period when hunter-gatherers settled and established permanent communities in the region. Excavations revealed that the arrangement was built by people who had already adopted farming and animal herding.

The stone arrangement reflects how early communities once marked important gathering places in their landscape. Such formations show traces of social gatherings and rituals that mattered to people who lived in the region thousands of years ago.

The site is easy to reach on foot and features an information board explaining the stones. It remains open to visitors at all times since it is freely accessible and requires no special preparations.

This is the only known prehistoric stone circle of its kind in the entire state of Hesse. Its circular arrangement sets it apart from other megalithic structures found in neighboring regions.
